Earlier in the month, Allen received news that he was accepted into the Texas A&M College of Engineering, which is ranked the 8th best engineering college in the United States by U.S. News and World Report.

Yesterday, [Thursday, October 31] Allen received more good news. Allen received a National ROTC scholarship, which covers tuition, fees, and textbooks. The scholarship also provides a monthly living stipend. Allen wants to be a military officer, and the scholarship would provide Allen the opportunity to join the Corp of Cadets at Texas A&M.

But wait there is more …?

Even with all of this good news, however, Allen may choose a different path to becoming a military officer. Allen has applied to and completed oral interviews for three of the nation’s military academies.
?
In the next two months, Allen will find out whether or not he has made the elite cut into a military academy. Allen’s first choice is the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
?
But, even if Allen doesn’t get into one of the academies, it is comforting to know that he still has the opportunity to attend one of the nation’s elite engineering programs…for free.

Allen has what we [Kennedale High School] want for every Wildcat: opportunity and choice.
