Barrett finishes 6th in Russia World Cup Strongman Event

Bryan Barrett from Kennedale flew to Omsk, Russia last week to compete in the International Russia World Cup Strongman competition. He was the lone representative from the United States. {{more: Read more …}}
 
He arrived early morning on Wednesday and started competition on Friday.
 
Barrett commented on Facebook that he had received a warm welcome from the Russian Strength Federation and later posted about the Russians had been outstanding host. ?The atmosphere here is incredible, thousands of people in the town square, cheering us on,? stated Barrett.
 
Sunday, on the last day of competition, he was in 6th place but was unable to make-up ground on the ?best heavyweight strongman [athletes] in Russia and Eastern Europe,? but said that he was satisfied with his overall performance in one of his last post from Omsk. See Facebook video @ Truck Pull
 
Barrett started 7 years competing in local strongman events and in his first year he finished 2nd in the Metroplex Strongman Middleweight Division.
 

Strongman competitions are not powerlifting events involving traditional weights. Events include a variety of challenges including but not limited to lifting rocks, toting refrigerators, pulling trains and towing eighteen wheel trucks. One of the events in the Russia Cup involved pulling a tank, as in, a real military tank.

 
Barrett, who has taught and coached a number of years at Kennedale High School, resigned from his teaching duties this last year to develop his business as a personal trainer. Earlier in December, he had announced that he had join UFC Boxer Johny Hendricks? camp as his strength and conditioning coach. He also has continued as the strength and conditioning coach for his father?s program at Kennedale High School.
 
In recent years, interest in the strongman sport at the grassroots level has skyrocketed. If you are interested seeing what excitement is all about, the Texas Strongest Man and Woman competition will be held August 27th at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth.
