This past weekend was a good one for Kennedale soccer. The Wildcats almost captured their first tournament title and the LadyKats got their 4 straight shutout. {{more:Read more…}}
 
The Kennedale Wildcats (2-2-1) entered the 16th annual Paris King?s Classic Tournament this weekend and made it to the championship game on Saturday. To get there they first played Pittsburg to a 1-1 tie on Thursday. On Friday as the temperature was dropping, the Cats defeated Pleasant Grove 1-0 then Saturday the Cats beat Terrell to earn a rematch with Pittsburg in the tournament championship game.

As it turned out it was a replay of the earlier match on Thursday when the game ended in regulation play knotted at at 1-1. But, Pittsburg topped Kennedale 5-4 in a penalty kick shootout, after regulation ended. Pittsburg captured the title and Kennedale took 2nd.

The Wildcats will host the Wildcat Invitational Tournament this week starting Thursday. They will follow that with non-district games against Argyle, Melissa and Abilene Wylie. In preseason rankings, Wylie was listed at #3 in Region 1 4A while Argyle was #6. Kennedale was in at #10.

LadyKats rolling …
 
If there anything the LadyKats soccer knows, it is how to win. The LadyKats continue to roll as they went 3-0 in the Boerne Tournament this past weekend, bringing their record to 5-0.
 
In tournament play, the Kats defeated #7 4A Boerne 2-0, 6A San Antonio MacArthur 2-0 and #5 4A Salado 4-0. It is worth noting the MacArthur was a state 6A semifinalist last year and was picked in the top ten in Region IV in Class 6A this year.

In five games, the LadyKats have had 4 shutouts. Senior goalie Sara Isela Calzada has had 23 saves off of 23 shots on goal by opponents. She had a game high of 9 saves in the shutout of Boerne this week.

Eryka McIntyre leading the team with 6 followed by senior Alondra Olmos 5, senior

Baylee Gow 3, senior Cara Hunt 1, freshman Faith Kinser 1 and freshman Leah

Brown 1. Also seeing early season action

has been junior Bailey Crowley, freshman Hanah Biles, freshman Libby Beck,

junior Megan Jakubisin and senior Taylor Fox.
