In the first game of the area round of the UIL State 4A baseball playoffs last night at Jet Teague Ballpark, Kennedale out hit the Melissa Cardinals 6-5, but it was the Cards who made the most out of their hits, winning 5-2.? {{more: continue …}}

Game two and three, if needed, will be played at Melissa today beginning at 6 p.m. Melissa is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes in normal traffic from Kennedale High School but it is across the the DFW area and north of Dallas. Google -?Directions

Melissa put up the first run in the top of the first. Kennedale tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Melissa responded with a big third, crossing the plate three times and taking the lead for good at 4-1. Kennedale kept Melissa off the scoreboard for the next three innings, but the Cats could not score again until the bottom of the sixth, managing a single run. Melissa scored once more in the top of the seventh for the final 5-2 score.

Kennedale did have several opportunities but twice Wildcat batters hit into double plays, ending their threats. Melissa did record 3 errors while Kennedale had two.

Getting singles for the Wildcats were Cameron Jones (SO), Jace Warren (JR), Cameron Hanna (SR), Tyler Simmons (SR), Ethan Bishop (SR) and Marcus Tidwell (SO). Crossing the plate for Kennedale were Bishop and Jones.

Pitching for Kennedale were Blake Taylor (JR) and Cody Read (JR). Taylor went 3 inning with 65 pitches, facing 15 batters, striking out 2 while throwing 31 strikes and getting 5 groundouts/flyouts. Read went 4 innings facing 17 batters, striking out 4 with 38 strikes on 58 pitches and getting 7 groundouts/flyouts.??
