Kats Softball wrap up Bi-District with 19-2 win over Springtown

For a bi-district game featuring a #1 seed vs a #4 seed, the game started off surprisingly slow but with 10 hits and 16 runs in the 5th and 6th innings, the Kennedale LadyKats took care of business in a 19-2 win over Springtown Wednesday night at LadyKat field in Kennedale. {{more}}
 
Playing in the visitor?s spot but at home, the LadyKats 7-4A Co-Champs (17-2) played the District 8-4A fourth place Lady Porcupines (Pojos) from Springtown (5-18) in a UIL Bi-district playoff game.

Elizabeth Schiele racked up five RBIs on two hits for Kennedale. She homered in the second inning and tripled in the fifth inning.
 
Allie Turner’s 13 strikeouts helped the LadyKats to the victory. Turner allowed one earned run, three hits and four walks over six innings. She had 63 strikes in 106 pitches and recored 6 ground/fly outs.
 
The game did start out slow in the first inning as Springtown [Perez] put down the first three LadyKats with two fly outs and one ground out. The Lady Pojos went on to score the first run of the game off of Turner on two walks and a single. It would be the only lead the the Pojos would have at 1-0.

The Kats answered back in the top of the 2nd with two runs on a Jazlyn Crowder single and an “in the park” 2-run home run by Elizabeth Schiele. After the shaky first, Turner responded in the bottom of the inning with three straight strike outs leaving Kennedale on top 2-1.
 
There were no scores in the third even though the Lady Kats had two singles (Turner and Mary Grace Howard) and a walk (Crowder). Springtown also went scoreless, leaving two stranded.
 
Both teams scored one run in the 4th with the Kats’ Alyssa Bradberry reaching on an error and scoring on a sacrifice by Ashley McElvaney. Springtown scored one run off a double with an error and a ground-out, keeping it a one run game at 3-2.
 
The flood gates cracked open in the 5th when the Kats scored 6 runs on 5 hits, boosting the score to 9-2. In the inning, Schiele tripled, Crowder doubled and Alexa Neifert, McElvaney and Turner each had singles. Turner closed out the 5th by not allowing a Pojo run on two strike outs, a fly-out and one hit.
 
Springtown’s pitching completely failed in the 6th and Kennedale took full advataged, scoring 10 runs on 5 hits and 7 walks. The five hits included a 3-run homer by Crowder and singles by Bradberry (RBI), Rebekah Abair, Jamie Franks (RBI), Neifert (RBI).
 
Turner topped off the inning with three K?s in 12 pitches, ending the game at 19-2 and earning the LadyKats the 7/8 4A Bi-District Championship.
 
Kennedale will play the winner of the #2 seed Graham (11-8) from District 6-4A vs #3 seed Iowa Park (8-4) from District 5-4A. The Graham/Iowa Park game is being played this weekend in a best of three match. UIL
