Alvarado vs Kennedale in Round 1 this week

 
With a 20-3 stomping of the Lake Worth Lady Bullfrogs, Kennedale had now earned their 24th berth in the UIL softball, an appearance for every year since softball started at KHS. {{more: READ MORE …}}
 
The Lady Kats will face the third seed from District 8-4A, the Lady Indians from Alvarado in a best of three series beginning this Thursday with Game 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Kennedale. Game 2 is Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Alvarado. Game 3, if needed, will be 11 a.m. Saturday with the location to be determined.
 
Alvarado is 18-10 overall and 9-3 in district, finishing 3rd behind Stephenville (11-1) and Godley (10-2) in a close battle of the top three teams.
 
Last year the Lady Kats and the Lady Indians were in the same district where Kennedale finished behind Alvarado in the district standings after splitting games during the regular season. Alvarado made it to the area round before losing to Stephenville. Kennedale went four deep, losing in the region semi-finals to Snyder.

The Lady Kats wrapped up it 2017 regular season with a 20-3 blasting of Lake Worth, ending Kennedale?s district campaign in second place with a 10-2 district record. Overall the Kats are 13-10.
 
Kennedale knocked Lake Worth out of the playoff picture leaving then in 5th place.
 
Collecting 23 hits, the Lady Kats scored 5 in the first, 1 in the second, 7 in the 4th, 4 in the fourth and ruled the game in the 5th when they tacked on 3 more runs.
 
Jamie Franks earned the win throwing 83 pitches, facing 19 batters, striking out 8, walking 2 and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits.
 
Franks also pushed two across the plate, going 5-4, hitting a double and a homerun. She led the team in total bases at 8.
 
Mary Grace Howard continued her mastery of the bat with 4 hits in 4 at bats, earning 5 RBIs while hitting 2 doubles and two triples and 1 walk.
 
Alexa Neifert was the third Kat with a four hit game going 5-4 with 2 RBIs.
 
Also getting multiple hits were Jenna Webb (4-3, 2RBIs, 1 double, 1walk); Megan Calhoun (5-2, 5 RBIs); and Josie Mensing (3-2, 2RBIs, 2 walks). Also contributing with hits were Ashley McElvany (3-1, 1RBI & walk) and Alyssa Bradberry (3-1, 1RBI, double & walk).
