Lady Kats 3-0 in district play

The Kennedale Lady Kats are on their way to capturing the first round of District 7-4A play at 3-0 with only Godley left to play. The young Kats (8-13-1) are coming off of a bruising pre-season schedule where almost every team they played was either a 5A or 6A team and most of those were 6A.{{more:[read more]}}
 
But, in a resounding turnaround, the Lady Kats have outscored their three district opponents 44-6. However, the biggest test maybe yet to come. It was Godley who last year spoiled the Kats run through the district by splitting wins and forcing a co-championship. On Tuesday March 29, Kennedale will host the Godley Lady Wildcats with the game time set for 6:30 p.m.

Tue, Mar 15 @ Alvarado (W) 10-6
 
The Kennedale Lady Kat won their first district game when they traveled to Alvarado and defeated the Lady Indians.
 
Mary Grace Howard (So) went 2-4 in the 10-6 win. Howard singled in the third inning and tripled in the sixth inning scored three times with 2 RBI.
 
Lexi Neifert (Jr) got the win for Kennedale. She allowed two runs over two innings. She struck out one, walked none and surrendered three hits.
 
Kennedale scored first in the top of inning one and never trailed in the game. The run came when facing two outs and two on Alyssa Bradberry (So) reached 1st on a groundball error and Howard was able to score from third. Getting hits in the inning were Jamie Franks (Jr) and Elizabeth Schiele ((Sr) both with singles. Alvarado struck out and grounded out twice to end the inning.
 
After getting nothing in the top of the 2nd with a ground out and two steal outs, the Kats score twice in the top of the 3rd when Howard who had reached on a single (2b flyball) scored followed by Schiele who also reached on single (LF flyball). Alvarado went scoreless in both innings.
 
In the 4th, Kennedale scored twice more with one out when Jenna Webb (walked, Neifert doubled and both Webb and Neifert scored with an error and a steal. In the bottom of the 4th, Alvarado got their first run on a ground out to third. Alvarado grounded out for each of their outs in the inning.
 
In the 5th, Kennedale went 3 and out while Alvarado tacked on two more runs to move the score to 5-3. The Indians scored on an error and a steal of home.
 
The bats came alive for the Lady Kats in the top of 6th when they scored 5 runs scoring Megan Calhoun, Webb, Neifert, Franks and Howard. Getting hits were Calhoun (single), Franks (single), Howard (triple) and Schiele (double). Alvarado tried to stay up with the Kats and managed to score three, putting the score at 10-6. The Indians scored after a walk, a single and two triples.
 
But the 7th ended quietly as both teams went 3 and out and Kennedale won 10-6.
 
Tue, Mar 22 @ Midlothian Heritage (W) 18-0
 
Fielding their first ever softball team, Midlothian Heritage had trouble stopping Kennedale as the Kats had 10 hits and scored 18 times with just one error in just 4 innings of play. The Lady Jaguars had three hits, no runs and recorded 10 errors.
 
Elizabeth Schiele racked up three RBIs on two hits while scoring twice for the LadyKats.
 
Kennedale LadyKats? Jamie Franks kept Heritage off the scoreboard for all four innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up six.
 
The Lady Kats scored 1 run in the first, 6 in the second, 4 in the third and 7 in the fourth.
 
Getting hits, runs and RBIs for the Lady Kats were Schiele (single, double, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Alyssa Bradberry (triple, 1 run, 2 RBIs), Lexi Neifert (2 singles, 2 runs, 2RBIs), Jamie Franks (4 runs), Mary Grace Howard (3 runs, 1 RBI), Ashley McElvany (single, 1 run, RBI), Valerie Velasquez (single, 1 run), Megan Calhoun (2 singles, 3 runs, RBI) and Jenna Webb (1 run, 1 RBI).
 
Thu, Mar 24 vs Diamond Hill-Jarvis (W) 16-0
 
In another run-away game, the Lady Kats returned home to play the Diamond Hill Lady Eagles winning in three by a score of 16-0.
 
Megan Calhoun got the win allowing 1 hit on 43 pitches with 32 strike and getting 4 strikeouts and 5 groundouts while facing 11 batters.
 
The Kats scored 7 runs in the first, 4 in the second and 5 in the third.
 
Kennedale had three players who were perfect at the plate. Elizabeth Schiele went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, a single and 1 RBI. Jenna Webb went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles and 3 RBIs. Valarie Velasquez went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and 2 RBIs.
 
Others getting hits and runs for the Lady Kats were Lexi Neifert who had a triple scored twice with 1 RBI. Jamie Franks had a double, scored once with 1 RBI. Mary Grace Howard had 2 singles and scored twice. Alyssa Bradberry scored twice with a single and 1 RBI. Ashley McElvany had 1 run and 2 RBIs. Megan Calhoun had one run.
