The Kennedale Lady Kats finished last year with a 26-10, 7-1 record, a # 9 state ranking, a district co-championship, 8 All-District selections and Coach of the Year honors but apparently they will have to prove themselves all over again as they were left out of the TGCA preseason poll. {{more}}
 

In his second year as Lady Kats Head Coach, Doug Watson, fields a junior laden team this year that returns 5 of 8 all-district players. As usual the Lady Kat basketball season has started loaded with 5A and 6A teams. Five of their first 6 games are against upper level competition with two of those with 6A teams and one of those being a pre-season top 10 team. (Lady

3 overtime thriller …
 
The Kats opened the season at home playing 5A Mansfield Legacy in a game that went into three overtimes before losing 100-98 in the bench clearing game. With top players fouling out, Mansfield finished the game with three players on the court and Kennedale had 4.
 
Grace Daniels (Jr) for Legacy had 52 points, leading all players in the game. Kennedale?s leading scorer was Evie Whorley (Jr) with 30 followed by 21 from Lucy Benson (Jr). Other players putting in points for the Kats were Taylor Austin (Jr) 9, Sydney Johnson (Jr) 8, Sydnee Biscoe (So) 7, Caitlin Tidwell (Sr) 6, Kylie Embry (Jr) 3 and Payton Williams (Jr) 3.quarter
 
strong 2nd quarter …
 
Last Tuesday, Kennedale played 5A Burleson Centential with the Kats winning 68-47 in Burleson. Kennedale put the game away with a 25-8 run in the 2nd quarter, giving Kennedale the lead at halftime at 47-38. Centennial never recovered. Centennial?s top scorer was Bree Gustin with 18 points. Leading the scoring for Kennedale was Lucy Benson 22, Whorley 18, Austin 15, Johnson 6 and 2 each from Williams and Embry.
 
top ten and undefeated opponent …
 
This past Friday, the Kats traveled to Waco to take on Waco Midway, ranked #9 in Class 6A. The Lady Kats never really were in the game with the undefeated 7-0 Panthers, losing 89-44. Taylor Austin came up big for Kennedale with 17 points followed by 9 each from Whorley and Davis. Other Kats scoring were Biscoe 4, Williams 3 and Tidwell 2.
 
Today, the Lady Kats will play 6A Richland (North Richland Hills) with the varsity game scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
Kennedale will play one more game before taking a break for the holidays by traveling to 3A Grandview Tuesday with another 3 p.m. game start.
