The Kennedale Lady Kats (16-9) repeated as District 6-3A champions sweeping district opponents with a 10-0 record. After two years in 6-3A the Lady Kat remain perfect, 20-0. Next year, the Lady Kats will play in District 7-4A, playing new opponents Alvarado, Venus and Godley along with FtW Diamond Hill-Jarvis.

Coach Mindy Youngs is frustrated now because she doesn?t know who the Ladies will be playing in their first playoff game. The playoffs allow for four teams from each district. This means the top team from one district will play the number 4 team from another. Teams 2 and 3 are matched together in the other games in round one called Bi-district. UIL

Who is playing who is normally settled after the regular season ends (or even before) but Kennedale must wait because in District 5-3A there is a tie for third place. The two teams (Vernon and Graham) will play on Friday night February 6. The loser of that game will play Kennedale early next week.

Since this will be match-up of winners against fourth place teams you can expect lopsided scores across the state. Kennedale should not have a difficult time winning this first round game but it will get a little tougher afterwards. Area round will pit Kennedale against Burnet (17-11) or Glen Rose 16-6/Stephenville 17-12. (Again another tie-breaker game this one for first place District 7-3A, the loser will play Burnet). After

that are the Regional Quarterfinals and Kennedale will begin to face the elite 3A

programs once again.

Kennedale?s district did not challenge the Lady Kats this year but after such a tough pre-district schedule, it was a great confidence builder for the rebuilding Kats. The Lady Kats have been to regionals four years in a row. To make it five it will take every bit of that confidence they have gain plus playing at a level above what they have done so far.
