Michener hits big at SFA

Zac Michener, who was a multiple sport star at Kennedale High School, has made the transition from junior college baseball to a D-I university showing the same type of success he showed at Kennedale. {{more:[Full Story]}}
 
Michener graduated in 2013 from Kennedale. While at KHS, he played both football (quarterback) and baseball (shortstop), earning MVP honors in both sports. He was a member of the 2011 Wildcat baseball state championship team. His senior year he batted .420 with 27 RBIs, 17 stolen base and helped lead the Cats to the regional semifinals and earning a spot on the DFW Region Super Team.

At Weatherford College, Michener was a first-team All-Conference honoree for the Coyotes as a sophomore in 2015, leading the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference in on-base percentage (.517).
 
This year at Stephen F Austin, as a junior playing in the outfield, he earned the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year Award for a standout regular season. Michener hit .340 with a .435 on-base percentage and a .489 slugging percentage. He posted a 25-game on-base streak and ended the regular season with 18 multi-hit games. In Southland Conference games, he hit .363. He finished the season with 66 hits including 13 doubles and 5 homeruns and batted in 33 runs while scoring 39 runs.
 
Michener became only the second Lumberjack to win the Newcomer of the Year Award. He was also named a third team All-Conference selection this year.

Michener does come from a baseball family. His father,

David, played catcher and outfield for Oral Roberts University. His younger

brother, Luke, played outfield for the Kennedale Wildcats this year as a

sophomore.

Zac is a Criminal Justice

major at SFA.
