Triple A projects Americans to travel in record numbers this holiday

With the Fourth of July coming up, the auto club AAA reports that a record number in the United States will be traveling with the help of bottom of the barrel gas prices. {{more: Read More … }}
 
In all, about 44.2 million people will take to the roads, skies, rails and waterways from Friday, June 30 to Tuesday, July 4, AAA projects.

All packed and ready to go

That?s 1.25 million more than last year, making it the most-traveled 4th of July weekend since AAA has been keeping record.
 

Most will drive, 37.5 million altogether, an increase of 2.9 percent over last year. 37.5 million Americans will drive to their destinations, an increase of 2.9 percent over last year. 3.44 million people are taking to the skies this Independence Day, increasing air travel by 4.6 percent over last year. 3.27 million travelers, an increase of 1.4 percent from 2016, will look to other modes of transportation, including cruises, trains and buses.

Expect the unexpected

The national average price for gas is 4 cents less than this time last year. The average price today is $2.28, a historic low for the summer travel season. However, consumers may see prices increase, albeit by pennies, closer to the holiday weekend, similar to the Memorial Day gas price trend.
