Any hopes that Alvarado had of knocking off Kenndale vanished on the 49 yard touchdown run by Quardraiz Wadley (Sr) on the first play of the second half to give the Kennedale Wildcats a 28-0 lead. It was certainly just a dream after Wadley?s 64 yard scamper at 1:41 in the 3rd to make it 42-0. Wadley ended the night with 7 touchdowns and 238 yards. {{more}}

The #4 Wildcats (9-0, 4-0) and the Indians rolled into the game with matching 3-0 district records and almost matching overall records with Kennedale at 8-0 and Alvarado at 7-1. This was to be a battle for the district title with only one more game left in the season. It was a game of district rivals and one that was only won in the last minutes in the game last year.

so what happen?

Kennedale?s ground game was slowed but Alvarado (7-2, 3-1) could never stop it. Kennedale exceeded it game average of 513 yards by running up 533 yards. Kennedale never had to punt. Scoring in every quarter, the Wildcats? first team score on 9 of 10 possessions, being stopped only once by a turnover on a fumble in the 4th. The Cats had three players in triple yardage.

twice the Cat’s stopped a Indian threat on 4th downs …

The Wildcats? defense had big moments too. Twice Alvarado mounted their trademark ?chew up the ground and the clock? drives. Twice the Wildcats stopped them on 4th downs deep in Kennedale territory.

In the first quarter when both teams were fighting for dominance, Alvarado mounted a 13 play drive from the Alvarado 12 yard line that ended on a 4th and 5 at the Kennedale 11 yard line. Kennedale took over from there and in quick succession scored a touchdown in five plays highlighted by a 66 yard run by QB Kasier McGlothen (Sr).

With Kennedale up by 14, the Indians mounted their second long drive that would carry over into the 2nd quarter. Starting at their 26 yard line Alvarado moved the ball steadily down the field mixing up the plays but again counting on the power of their star runner, senior Austin Morriel (5?10, 200 lbs), to churn down the field. Then on a 4th and a short 1 at the Kennedale 14, QB Brayden Ramsey (Jr) tried a pass that fell out of the back of the endzone. Morriel for the game gained 95 yards on 21 attempts and one touchdown, well below his average of 148 yards per game.

Kennedale came right back with their own long drive (an unusual occurrence for Kennedale this season) going 86 yards in 14 plays and ending with a Wadley 7 yard touchdown. This drive mixed the running of Wadley (53 yards) with Mcglothen (19 yds) and Dailyn Wells (27 yards) to move the length of the field.

McGlothen would end the night with 13 carries for 128 yards. Dailyn Wells (Sr) would carry the ball 13 times for 160 yards and one touchdown.

a doomed comeback attempt …

Alvarado did try to make a comeback of sorts when they scored at the beginning of the 4th quarter. After a 30 yard Ramsey pass completion to Alonso Shaw (Jr) to the Kennedale 1 yard line, Morriel took it over one play later for Alvarado?s first score of the game. Kennedale gave the ball back on a fumble and Ramsey fired off a pass to Trevor Stovall (Jr) that went 73 yards for another Indian touchdown and it was 41-13 after the extra point failed.

But, there was no miracle for the Indians in the making here. Alvarado could not stop the Kennedale machine. The Wildcats mounted a clock chewing nine play scoring drive that took nearly 5 minutes off the clock, leaving Alvarado little time. Alvarado would score once again off a Ramsey pass to Shaw but that would be all for the Indians of Alvarado.

For Alvarado, Ramsey ended the game with 10 completions on 18 attempts for 199 yards and 11 yards rushing. Shaw had 11 rushes for 66 yards and 2 catches for 34 yards and 1 touchdown. Stovall had one catch for 73 yards and one touchdown.
