The state of Texas came in at #20 when WalletHub compared the 50 states in best states to raise a family. Top five states were all northern states – Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Dakota and Vermont in that order. {{more: continue …}}

To determine the best states in which to put down family roots, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 42 key indicators of family-friendliness. The data set ranges from median family salary to housing affordability to unemployment rate.

The rest of the top ten includes Wisconsin, New York, Iowa, Nebraska and California. The bottom ten from 41-50 – Nevada, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Louisiana, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi and New Mexico.
