This past year the school received two state Academic Distinctions for performance in the top 25% in both student progress and closing performance gaps. Enrollment as reported to TEA on the required reporting date was 510 students.
 
formerly Kennedale High School …
 
Kennedale Junior High School is located at 930 Corry A. Edwards Drive, formerly Bowman Spring Road, in Kennedale. The building was originally built for Kennedale High School when it moved from the old site on Business 287 in 1978. While it was the high school, it was expanded several times and portable buildings had to be added in the rear of the building including moving the band hall from the front of the building to the rear.
 
fire prompted a major renovation …
 
After voters approved the construction of a much larger high school on Treepoint Drive, soon to be renamed Wildcat Way, the high school was moved to its present location in 1999. The junior high took over the old high school building the same year. A fire later gutted a significant portion of the building and the school was significantly rebuilt and reconfigured into its present design.
