Schools report smooth openings

The first morning of school went off with few reported problems. A check at each campus around 10 a.m. saw a scene that was quiet.

Once the first day of early morning traffic congestion had died down, there was little evidence of this being anything but a normal school day. Enrollment numbers were not available yet but most campuses believed that they will equal or exceed last year?s figures. {{more}}

?At Kennedale High School where early registration had indicated an increase enrollment, the office was busy taking care of first day details ? issuing misplaced or corrected schedules, registering a handful of returning students and making student ids. No new student registrations were permitted today. New students will be able to register the rest of the week by appointment. Kennedale High School ended the year last year with 939 students.

At Kennedale Junior High School, halls were quiet. All students were in classes. Enrollment numbers were not available but numbers were not down. New students were permitted to start enrolling at noon and will be able to come at any time the rest of the week. On the last day of school in June, 489 students were enrolled.

James Arthur Intermediate Assistant Principal Beth Morris reported things had gone well. A few parents were in the office registering but everyone else was in class. She thought numbers were up a little. James Arthur finished the year with 493 students.

At James Delaney Elementary Principal Katina Martinez was pleased with the first morning. She thought the numbers would be at least equal if not greater than last year. Delaney had 758 students on the last day of school in June.

R.F. Patterson Elementary office was quiet with students in the classrooms or getting tours of the building while being introduced to school procedures. Patterson ended last year with 428 students.
